Motorhome hire Argyll and Bute is the gateway to the Isle of Bute, Mull, Islay, Jura, Tiree and Colonsay. Campervan hire Argyll & Bute is the ideal way to start searching this vast region that offers some of Scotland’s finest scenery, including castles, dramatic mountains, and a chain of islands that form the Inner Hebrides. Boasting 3,000 miles of coast line to explore motorhome rental Argyll and Bute is a great way to start your journey, with much to see and do including walking, fishing and golf. Campervan rental Argyll and Bute is one of the first areas settled by the Scots who came here from their native Ireland to create the kingdom of Dalriada, from here Christianity was spread thanks to the arrival of St. Columba on the tiny island of Iona. Later the region was ruled by the Vikings whose descendants became the Lords of the Isles. The MacDonalds (not to be confused with Mc Donalds fast food chain!) were the first chiefs but they had lost out to their bitter rivals, the Campbells, whose leaders became the dukes of Argyll.

The largest settlement in northern Argyll is the port of Oban, founded in the 18th century as a fishing village, it is known as the 'Gateway to the Hebrides'. There is a interesting maritime museum and castle located in the Town of Inveraray, this town is also famous for the remains of Rob Roys dwelling.

15-mile journey along Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde is separated from the mainland by the narrow Kyles of Bute - a haven for boats of every description. Close to its main town of Rothesay is the Victorian, Gothic-style castle Mount Stuart, seat of the Marquises of Bute. Rothesay Castle, which dates from the 13th century, was largely destroyed by Oliver Cromwell's army in the 17th century. The first cotton mill to be built in Scotland was built on Bute by an industrialist with the name of David Dale in 1788. Tobermory is the main town on the wild Isle of Mull, and is now famous for the fictional 'Balamory' in a popular children's TV series.
